The Philos is a Bauhaus Design + Build custom home located in Dallas, TX which aims to redefine modern luxury through the use of clean materials, black framed glass, and a true integration of indoor/outdoor living. The property as a whole is bound by a solid 8’ tall steel fence while opening up to the street with vertical steel slats. Upon passing through the front gate, a giant red heart, which this project is named for welcomes its’ visitors and provides guidance to the next visual marker, the 12’ tall wood entry door which rests under a long cantilevering overhang. The interior of the home is almost completely white except for the marble tile accents and contrasting black window frames, so that the homeowners have a gallery-like environment to display their expansive art collection. A transparent double height volume just off the entry marks the center of the house where all circulation paths, both interior and exterior converge. Through two adjacent multi-slide doors, the massive covered outdoor patio shelters an open living, kitchen, dining arrangement which leads out towards the pool. The exterior is completed with hand-selected vernacular landscape, a tennis court, and running track which encompasses the property.
