A Home Designer & Builder with a German Building Sensibility

It all began with Bauhaus founder and German native home designer and builder, Marc Kleinmann. Following the German Bauhaus principles of unifying art, craft, and technology, Kleinmann is known for his European building sensibility and construction of luxurious, high-performance custom homes that led to the formation of Bauhaus Custom Homes, premier design build firm in Dallas, TX.

“Stay true and authentic to style and create a comfortable, luxurious living environment” is Kleinmann’s philosophy, which enables him to create truly remarkable residences in a variety of authentic styles, from modern to traditional. “At the same time, we save our clients money by building a high-performance home that lowers their utility bills”.

Catering to the specific needs of empty nesters who want to downsize and families that need to upsize, Bauhaus Custom Homes has gained recognition for using an integrated design and build process to translate our clients’ dreams into reality with custom home designs suited to the needs of their individual lifestyles.

Dos and Don’ts of Selecting a Dallas Design Build Firm

  • Physically check out a builder’s work, in addition to speaking to references.
  • Ask about additional certifications. It can show commitment to the industry.
  • Ask about the builder’s approach to foundation, framing, insulation, HVAC, plumbing, and electric.
  • Consider the chemistry between you and your potential builder. It doesn’t have to be a love match, but you should be able to communicate well.
  • Align expectations by getting benchmarks for the architecture, design, and finish-out specifications of the home prior to starting construction.
  • Establish one point of accountability.
  • Get a completed design and a fixed price construction budget BEFORE you start.

  • Purchase a home site without having a professional home designer and builder review it.
  • Begin the architectural design phase without first selecting your builder and proceeding through the process in conjunction with your builder.
  • Usurp a builder’s intellectual property by presenting it to another builder in an attempt to position them against each other.
  • Fall into the “price-per-foot” trap. Buying a custom build-to-suit home by the price-per-foot makes as much sense as buying a car by the pound. Know the specifications and know exactly what is included in every facet of the home.
  • Withhold information from your home designer and builder. At some point, a mutually respectful level of trust must exist for your design build firm to provide an excellent experience.
  • Try to get competing bids from random contractors. Trust your builder’s trade base. Using the services of a random contractor or supplier might appear to save you a few dollars on the front end, but it could likely end in headache when a warranty item requires attention.
